Visitors to intu Potteries will now be able to enjoy a more streamlined parking experience with the introduction of a new ticketless payment system.

The new Tap and Go system gives shoppers the option of no longer needing to take a paper ticket when entering the car park. Instead, on arrival, drivers will be able to simply ‘tap’ their debit/credit card to the contactless card reader at the entrance or if using chip and pin, insert the card into the machine at the barrier, to say they’ve arrived.

When leaving, visitors can then drive straight to the exit and ‘tap’ or insert the same debit/credit card to log their departure time. They will then need to tap their payment card of choice on the reader one more time for their payment to be debited in line with the centre’s car parking tariffs or pay via chip and pin, and the barriers will lift automatically once payment is complete.

Commenting on the new Tap and Go initiative, Rachael Jackson, general manager at intu Potteries, said: “the introduction of Tap and Go is a great addition, making things even more convenient for shoppers. We welcome over 1 million cars through our car parks every year and we’re committed to providing all our customers with an excellent shopping experience from the minute they arrive, to the moment they leave. These latest upgrades are an important part of that experience.”

Shoppers still wishing to use the previous paper ticket method of parking will still be able to follow the original system of taking a ticket and paying on foot at the machine at the end of their visit.
