Fancy piloting a Dalek or exploring the Tardis in Staffordshire’s new Doctor Who virtual experience?

Doctor Who fans and VR enthusiasts can step into the Doctor Who universe with a brand new VR experience at Hanley’s XPVR virtual reality experience, Stoke on Trent.

Launching on the official ‘Doctor Who Day’ Saturday, 23rd November 2019, the new Doctor Who: The Edge of Time virtual reality experience will give all fans and VR enthusiasts the opportunity to visit breath-taking worlds and come face to face with classic Doctor Who monsters.

Developers of the feature length VR game Doctor Who: The Edge of Time have created a custom location-based entertainment version of the game specifically for arcades, including Hanely’s XPVR venue for fans in the West Midlands.

Through the development process Maze Theory, BBC Studios and PlayStack received lots of requests from excited fans and VR lovers, who don’t yet have headsets at home, but are desperate to experience the world-famous Doctor Who universe in virtual reality.

The high octane 20-minute version of Doctor Who: The Edge of Time which will launch on the official ‘Doctor Who Day’ - 23rd November and features three levels modified from the game to give players a mind blowing 20 minute experience.

Players can travel through the iconic Doctor Who title sequence and time vortex and explore the TARDIS, a dream-come-true for Doctor Who fans! They will also come face-to-face with Weeping Angels. A horrific nightmare come true in the VR experience; these have made a huge impact on fans so far. Plus, they can pilot a Dalek through a Dalek Shooter level, fighting against drones and other iconic aliens.

The new game is designed for ease of use and is suitable for players of all ages. The Doctor Who franchise - a firm family favourite - has more than 100 million fans worldwide.

Maze Theory (the game's developer) CEO, Ian Hambleton, says: “As we’ve been making the feature length game, we have engaged with fans who are desperate to try it out. Our aim is to make it possible for anyone, including those that don’t have VR, to step inside the famous show, collude with the Doctor and experience first-hand what it’s like to pilot the TARDIS and come face-to-face with the show’s terrifying monsters and aliens. It’s truly mind-blowing – if a little terrifying in parts!”

Owner of XPVR, Rhys Davey, says: “We can’t wait to let customers play on this brand new Doctor Who virtual reality experience when it is released on Saturday 23rd November to coincide with the official Doctor Who day. We know it will be very popular as not everyone has a VR headset at home so the slightly shorter arcade version of the experience will let everyone have a chance to come and experience it”.

XPVR opened in the city in July and allows customers to team up and try over 40 virtual reality experiences available, including trying the 7D simulators and two virtual escape games set in the worlds of Assassins Creed.
