In an effort to bring festive cheer to families in the city centre this year, Stoke-on-Trent City Centre Business Improvement District (BID), is set to welcome CBeebies’ characters to The Potteries Centre on various Saturdays in December.

Young families can enjoy personal appearances by characters from their favourite children’s shows Moon and Me on Saturday 12 December and Hey Duggee on Saturday 19 December – all for free!

On both days, the characters will be making personal appearances at intervals between 11am and 4pm in the shopping centre and attendees will be encouraged to bring their camera to capture the magic.

BID Manager Richard Buxton hopes the event will bring a new audience into the evolving city centre and believes it is a step in the right direction to the area becoming an attractive and engaging destination for families.

“COVID restrictions and social distancing has put a stop to most of our event plans for 2020, and like everyone else we have been disappointed – yet understanding – about the fact that events and entertainment have had to take a backseat for some time now.

“That’s why we are delighted to bring special appearances from some of CBeebies’ most popular characters to the city centre. We are working with Rainbow Productions – the UK's official supplier of licensed children's character appearances – on the events,  and are greatly confident in their ability to deliver safe and distanced entertainment.

“A lot of local people haven’t ventured here for some time so we hope that events like this will encourage people to come out and explore their city centre a bit more.

“And if my grandson is anything to go by, Moon and Me and Hey Duggee are sure to be very well received indeed by little ones!”

Amy Whittaker, General Manager of The Potteries Centre, is pleased that the venue is supporting the appearances:

“The festive season will certainly be a little different this year, but it’s great to be able to still host something special for our visitors – especially the little ones. We’re really excited to welcome these very special guests and to help spread a little festive cheer throughout December.
“The Potteries Centre will also be decked out with twinkling lights and lots of eye-catching Christmas decorations, with lots to see for the whole family.”

Due to social distancing measures being in place and the BID’s priority being the safety of city centre visitors, parents and guardians are advised that booking to attend an appearance is essential.

Timeslots can be allocated per family or group of 6 (maximum) via Eventbrite and the BID asks that every effort is made to attend during the timeslot chosen to avoid disappointment.

Queueing systems will be in place in addition to the ticketing system to ensure the adherence to current COVID guidelines and the health and safety of everyone in attendance.

Book for Moon and Me on Saturday 12 December.

Book for Hey Duggee on Saturday 19 December.
