Christmas shoppers looking for gifts online are being encouraged to buy from local businesses and help Stoke-on-Trent’s stores, venues and attractions during coronavirus restrictions.

Under national lockdown rules in England, non-essential shops are currently closed until at least December 2.

But many Stoke-on-Trent retailers are offering online shopping with delivery or click, call and collect services so customers can still buy their products.

To help the city’s businesses during this time, Visit Stoke - Stoke-on-Trent City Council’s Visitor Economy Team - has set up a web page at visitstoke.co.uk that lists a range of ways shoppers can buy locally-produced Christmas gifts online or over the phone.

The ‘Tis The Season To Support Local’ section includes information about Stoke-on-Trent businesses including visitor attractions, cultural venues, art galleries, pottery studios, sports merchandise stores and gift shops.

Suggested presents include annual passes, vouchers, memberships, jewellery, paintings, prints, Stokie gifts and much more.

The website also has details about some of the essential shops which remain open during the current restrictions.

Councillor Lorraine Beardmore, cabinet member for culture, leisure and public health, said: “Because of the current restrictions, Christmas shopping is very different for us all at the moment. Customers are using online alternatives to buy gifts for friends and family – and we want everyone to know that there’s a huge range of local options that they can still use.

“We want people to try to think about using local businesses as much as possible in the run-up to Christmas – whether that’s online orders and deliveries from their websites or covid-secure collection options where possible. It’s been a really difficult year for local businesses and they really need our support more than ever before.”
