In the bustling heart of the city centre's Cultural Quarter lies a humble eatery which captures the essence of culinary excellence and Stokie grit: The Slamwich Club. Having recently achieved the coveted Blue Ribbon recognition in the Good Food Guide, we popped in to find out more about this achievement, along with where The Slamwich Club came from and where its going...

Behind the doors of The Slamwich Club, you're immediately greeted with warm smiles and delicious smells of Slamwiches (NEVER to be confused with the regular sandwich, more on that later.) The restaurant blends cosy and casual with quality and quirkiness. Adorned with locally curated murals, soft furnishings and fun branding, the story of the slamwich is clear to see inside a once abandoned building. Sitting down with The Slamwich Club owners, Nicole and Steph, it is clear to see their inspirations come to life.

"We opened up in 2018 following a huge renovation project of this building." Steph begins. "This building had been closed for 10 years previously, so it was a real project in making it our own. After 6 years, the introduction of takeouts during the pandemic and loads of Slamwiches, we're still here and still growing."

Staying on the front foot has always been integral to The Slamwich Club's growth and success, including the constant development of menu items and opening their own outdoor venue 'The Backyard' which features DJs, music, events and art located just 30 seconds round the corner from the restaurant. Not only this, but the creative genius that goes into Slamwich flavour combos is a given for repeat visitation; if we had to pick, our favourite would have to be the 'Spice Up Ya Life', featuring buttermilk chicken tenders, stilton and a stunning sriracha mayo. Oh, and we ALWAYS have to go with a side of frickles.

"The last few years have been unpredictable, however our success is testament to the amazing team we have here." shares Nicole. "From our creative chefs developing new Slamwich flavours to the team on the ground, everyone works really hard to make what is essentially a meal between two slices of bread into so much more."

The success of the restaurant has been undeniable. The beloved slamwich purveyors have been awarded a 'Retail, Leisure, Culture & Tourism' award from Staffordshire Chamber of Commerce, 'Restaurant of the Year' by 6 Towns Radio and have been named in the Trip Advisor 'Travellers Choice' list 4 years consecutively. The Slamwich Club team can now add the Good Food Guide to their ever-growing list of accolades.
The Good Food Awards are to celebrate those who excel in food quality, service and value. Bolstered by customer feedback, votes and reviews, the Good Food Guide institution has been a reliable source for those seeking the best places to dine since 1951 and today it remains the longest standing and best-selling guide to dining out in Great Britain.

"Being recognised in the 2023/24 Good Food Guide was a fantastic surprise to us." the charismatic co-owners explain. "We were nominated by our customers, and eventually awarded the Blue Ribbon recognition in the official guide. We were in the running for Best Local Restaurant of the Year, which is a really cool achievement in itself. To have our customers take the time to even think about us and vote is really special."

It's not difficult to see why Steph and Nicole's venture has garnered so much success and satisfied stomachs. For them and the rest of The Slamwich Club team, the only way is up. With an updated menu on the way, a host of new events for The Backyard and their continued passion to serve up quality food to loyal local customers, The Slamwich Club is a testament to the power of following aspirations and that greatness can start between two slices of bread.

Great write up on a great venue! Not only are the slamwiches tasty and creative, but the prices are reasonable and the venue is cosy and welcoming. I only get to Stoke once in a while (my home city) but this venture makes me feel proud of the place and the people. Bravo Nic and Steph! Girl power!
