What is World Book Day?

We want to see more children - from all backgrounds - developing a life-long habit for reading for pleasure, benefitting from the improved life chances that this brings them. World Book Day's mission is to promote reading for pleasure and give every child and young person the opportunity to have a book of their own.

How are we celebrating World Book Day 2024 in Stoke-on-Trent?

We are working with The National Literacy Trust in Stoke-on-Trent and Stoke-on-Trent Family Hubs to bring four amazing storytellers to Stoke-on-Trent libraries on Saturday 9 March 2024. A morning of superb fun for the whole family.

Storytelling is a wonderful way to make stories jump off the page and truly come to life and we want to help children to experience stories in all their many forms.

Enjoying World Book Day in Stoke-on-Trent is as easy as 1,2,3

1. Choose which storyteller you would like to see

2. Contact your local Stoke-on-Trent library and book your free places

3. Turn up on Saturday 9 March and enjoy amazing stories shared by superb storyteller

But the fun doesn't stop there! Thanks to The National Literacy Trust in Stoke-on-Trent every child that attends a World Book Day storytelling event will receive a free World Book Day book to take home and keep.

  • These events are free to attend but places must be booked in advance by contacting your local Stoke-on-Trent Library.

  • Children aged 8 and under must be accompanied by a grown-up.

  • All children attending must be Stoke-on-Trent Libraries members.
